I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember, but Sugar chose me — and made it personal. From that moment on, I knew my purpose was to care for her and others like her.

She was simply the most beautiful white cat I’d ever seen. She showed up one day on my back porch, and I fell in love with her instantly. Not long after, I realized she was pregnant. I took her in, helped her through it, and we formed a bond that surprised me in its depth.

When she went into labor, she came to find me. I sat with her as she gave birth to four kittens, including a little guy we named Rocco "the Taco". My son picked Rocco to keep (of course!), and we found loving homes for the rest. That experience reminded me how powerful the connection is between humans and animals — especially those who need us most.

Even now, I find myself caring for a stray who comes to visit daily while I water the grass. I may not be able to adopt every one of them, but I realized I could create something bigger — something that helps shelters and rescues support the animals still waiting for a family of their own.
